Vincent Baloyi Founder of Khalanga Chess Foundation Vincent Baloyi is a trailblazer who brought chess to his home village of Merwe A in the mid-1980s, sparking a cultural movement that continues to grow. Located in Malamulele, Limpopo, Merwe A is a close-knit village of around 5,000 residents, many of whom now start playing chess as early as age seven, a testament to Baloyi’s influence.
A decorated chess champion, Mr. Baloyi began collecting accolades in 2015 and has represented the United Nations in prestigious international championships. His passion for the game has taken him to Portugal, Denmark, and beyond, where he competes and advocates for the global chess community. Through the Khalanga Chess Foundation, Vincent continues to give back, organizing yearly tournaments that empower youth, promote education, and inspire the next generation of champions.
